Biography

For a Melbourne girl who grew up strumming the guitar and singing Joni Mitchell and Edie Bricall songs,Beth George was always destined to sing her own unique style of folk music. At 16 she recorded her first”demo tape”of Songbird by Christine McVie.

A love for a beautiful melody coupled with lyrics that contained real-life stories led Beth to sing a wide range of styles. After gigging steadily in jazz/blues bands Beth began to add more folk tinged original songs to her live act. In 2000 she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Music Performance. In 2003 Beth recorded her first solo acoustic EP engineered by Peter Ziersch at Spirit Way Studio.

This led to future collaborations with Beth and Peter co-producing and launching her debut album “Flying Not Falling“at Bennett’s Lane Jazz Club in November 2005. This album received a warm welcome on radio( 3PBS, 3CR , Classic FM ABC) and garnered positive reviews. In 2006 Beth (Guitar/Vocals),Peter (Guitar,Bass,Vocals) and Martha Baartz (Alto Saxophone/Flute) performed Flying Not Falling material in various venues around Melbourne.

In 2007/2008 Beth was very creative indeed! She gave birth to a beautiful little boy and penned many new original songs. After a year of maternity leave Beth has since returned to gigs and headed back into the studio. She recently appeared on “The Women Zone” on Joy FM to talk about songwriting and to sing a few live songs.

Beth is now set to release her follow up album Like Wild Flowers Dancing in 2010. This album contains a dynamic breadth of styles from rolling country tunes and groove oriented blues to straight ahead heart felt folk. Like Wild Flowers Dancing is a celebration of life.
